Who is the Queensland Social Enterprise Council?

The Queensland Social Enterprise Council (QSEC) is the peak body for Social Enterprise and Impact-led business in Queensland. We represent, support and advocate for the interests of social enterprises and social entrepreneurs to drive high social, cultural and environmental impact.

Our efforts encompass advocacy, policy development, capacity building, and engagement, with the aim to increase sector awareness and create greater pathways and opportunities for our members.

As we enter our 11th year as the peak body in Queensland, our scope has broadened alongside our membership to include a large range of industries. This evolution enables our policy and advocacy efforts to incorporate perspectives from a multitude of sub-sectors.

Who are our members?

QSEC’s membership base is representative of the diverse social enterprise, impact and purpose-led business sector in Queensland. Our members extend from the South East Corner through to regional and Central Queensland, and right up to Cairns.

We engage directly with our members through events, roundtable discussions, annual 1:1 catchups, capacity-building workshops and webinars, newsletters, and via our members-only area on our website.

What is a Social Enterprise?

  1. Has a social mission embedded in the DNA of the business to directly address social, cultural and/or environmental needs;

  2. Is an enterprise deriving a majority of its revenue through trade rather than through grants, donations or gifts;

  3. Reinvests the majority of their efforts and resources back into their mission and impact.

  4. This is why the social enterprise sector is often referred to as the sector doing…. business for good.
