I am Liz Henderson and I have 2 businesses in very different categories. I run a strategy consultancy and for the last 15 of 20 years, have worked with large companies across a multitude of sectors in Australia and New Zealand, including large NFPs. I want to pivot my business to provide the same strategy development and implementation services that the big guys pay $30K-$100K for (direct hire model) to social enterprises in an online "one to many" model at a fraction of the cost. I am really at the stage of my career where I want to give back and work with small to medium size "for purpose" businesses to help them scale and grow their impact. I am particularly interested in helping social enterprises that have been going for a few years and need to pivot from Founder-driven (where leader covers multiple roles and is at risk of burnout) to CEO led (a maturing organisation with strategy, structure and repeatable processes). This pivot of my consultancy is really at a start up phase.
I also have a social enterprise e-commerce business (keeps me grounded on the above).
I purchased The Ten Active, a maternity activewear manufacturing and retailing business, in late Sept 2019. All our manufacturing has been done in Australia to date. I want to shift it off-shore to a sustainable/ethical sewing centre in Cambodia (set up by Brisbanites) that is staffed by women rescued from sex trafficking. I visited the sewing centre in Nov and began the production journey for our new range in Jan 2020. Then COVID-19 hit. Getting fabric into Cambodia and the finished product out of Cambodia with no planes and by sea shipping timeframes and costs exponentially increased, is a challenge. I need to rethink my social enterprise support...ie: continue to manufacture in Australia for the time being (support our local economy) and support Cambodia through cash donations?
I am really looking to be part of an online community that has a similar vision and ethos. Its a lonely journey otherwise. And if there is an opportunity to serve and provide some free strategy webinars to the QSEC community, would love to offer those.
