Centacare FNQ is the social services arm of the Catholic Dioceses of Cairns. We provides a range of social services to Cairns and the wider Far North Queensland region, particularly to people who are vulnerable, disadvantaged or marginalised within our community. Our vision is for a healthy and connected community that reflects and supports the dignity, equality and participation of all people. The Multicultural Services team of Centacare FNQ has been delivering settlement services since 1986 across the Cairns region and enjoys a high profile in Cairns as the lead provider of refugee and migrant services.
UpCyclinc is an innovative social enterprise providing space for upcycling and repurposing discarded household, corporate and industrial items. Developed by Centacare FNQ it provides opportunities for people from migrant and refugee backgrounds to gain local work experience through immersion across all elements of the business. The supportive environment promotes professional skill development while building on existing strengths and talents. UpCyclinc is a pathway to employment, further education or business development.
The enterprise consists of a workshop space and a textile sewing space with equipment and machinery to transform what would normally end up in landfill into marketable repurposed and environmentally sustainable products. The products are sold through a number of retail platforms, including online, markets and pop up shopfronts.
