Large Business Social Enterprise Of The Year - Sunshine Coast Business Awards 2018
In 1998, a group of parents of children with a disability formed Parent to Parent (P2P). They were united by their belief in working with people with a disability, their families, and carers to provide them with the best possible information and networks of support. Today, P2P serves over 500 families across Queensland and our reach spreads far beyond our head office in Woombye. We're a social enterprise, registered with the NDIS (National Disability Insurance Scheme) to deliver Plan Management and Support Coordination, assisting people with a disability to implement and manage their care plans. However, our work goes far beyond NDIS support, as we provide a diverse array of projects and services dedicated to helping people with a disability achieve their goals.
The transition to the NDIS has caused a seismic shift in the disability sector and led P2P to consider more innovative, sustainable models of funding to continue our work. In August 2017, this culminated in the foundation of our Community Partnerships wing, which collaborates with the local social enterprise sector and oversees our own socially-conscious businesses. As a result of this new focus, P2P has delivered the first Social Enterprise Action Forum on the Sunshine Coast in 2017. More recently, we've collaborated with other local enterprises through Social Enterprise Network Sunshine Coast (SENS) to deliver the Regional Social Enterprise Forum in 2018. Our current social enterprise initiatives include Cycle-UP, The Outsiders and It's Nothing New. Each of our social enterprises is provided with workshop space and administrative support from P2P, as our social entrepreneurs work alongside talented professionals to create socially-conscious, sustainable businesses that provide employment opportunities for people of all abilities
