Vanguard Laundry is a 7 million-dollar, state-of-the art commercial laundry in Toowoomba. We are a not for profit social enterprise, purpose built to provide targeted employment to people with a lived experience of mental illness. We do not rely on ongoing government funding to support our social purpose, rather, we fund our own social mission by washing dirty linen for over 130 hotels, restaurants and health clients.
We have an in-house Careers Centre that works with community partners to identify vulnerable candidates, engage them in work, support them during the initial stages of their employment and then support them to transition out of Vanguard once they have built the confidence and skills to pursue their career goals. Since we opened in 2016, We have employed over 100 people and facilitated over 35 transitions into open employment and full time education. We work with community organisations to create jobs for vulnerable groups like newly arrived refugees, young indigenous men, and long-term unemployed people. The thread that unites those candidates that come to us is a lived experience of mental illness.
